Workshopping // Les Ateliers

I’m preparing a workshop for next weekend. I’ll host some lovely ladies at my house and have been working on some goodies to give them.

I would love to do more workshops. I’m a really social person and love working on creative things with other people. I like the quite moments on my own in my apartment workshop, but love it when people come over and even stay for a while to work on things together or separately. And more and more I’m feeling that’s the direction I’d like to develop my work.

I’m finding that people quite like the pieces that I make and I’ve sold a bit over the last 18 months or so, but what I’m discovering is that people really want to be able to do it for themselves. OK so there will always be people who just genuinely can’t work a needle and thread (like me with a crochet needle!) and for those people I will continue to produce work that I adore and I hope others do to. But mostly I’m discovering that friends and interested people don’t necessarily want me to make them something, they want the satisfaction of doing it themselves. They want to go into the candy shop fabric store, choose fabrics with their home and taste in mind, assemble all the pieces and mostly enjoy the immense satisfaction of each day seeing something they made. Oh and the best moment of all, receiving compliments on a piece and being able to say “I made that!”

I was trying to think of something nice to give the girls next Saturday. I read Holly Becker’s piece on Decor8 about workshop tips, although it differs to what I’m doing because I know all the girls coming over – she gives genuine workshops to students. But I did get the idea of goodie bags. And my friend Niamh also said something about a Girl’s Club that made me think of homemade badges, sticker books, fancy notepaper (I’m going to start a new collection – I wonder can I find anyone to start swapping! Does anyone collect that any more?!) and lemonade.

Mon amie Niamh a me donné une autre bonne idée.

Finished labels

I made the labels as a start but am trying to think of something else to go inside bags. Although it’s now Thursday so perhaps I’m a little late!

With Bag

More on the workshop later!

Plus sur le atelier plus tard!
